Full

So much excitement and nervousness and apprehension and possibility.
So much to do and wish for and plan for and want.
So many friends and so much sunshine.

This Weekend We-- The Language of Flowers

It was divide and conquer. Big kids with dad, Arlo with mama.
While Tom took Sena and Gus swimming at the indoor pool, Arlo attended his very first book club.
He is very literary, my boy, though he didn't contribute much to the discussion.
Book club was at my friend's cave, an amazing subterranean house filled to the brim with whimsy and wackiness, trinkets and treasures.

Wine and women.
Cats and clothing exchanges.
An all around perfect way to spend a Saturday.

Winter Wonders

A morning spent dressing and undressing, throwing layers in the dryer to be ready for yet another round of snowy exploration  And though the grass peaked out from the light layer, it didn't stop my kids from spending hours trying desperately to make a snowball out of something that simply would not cooperate.

And when the cold bit just a little too hard, there was hot chocolate and grilled cheeses ready and waiting.

I'm not sure that there is anything as delightful as unexpected snowy mornings.

My Tribe

Asenath Rose

A girl who knows that nerdy boys are the best boys, and  who loves Georgia O'Keeffe. Who likes to order the weirdest food on the menu and spends hours drawing pictures and making cards. Who is full of so much imagination and wisdom and more than a little wackiness.

Gus

A boy as wild as he is kind. Who loves deeply and completely. Who likes to wrestle every night and then to fall asleep on his mama's arm. Who says the best prayers you've ever heard and compliments old ladies at weddings before heading to the dance floor.

Arlo

The mellowest baby you ever did see, who barley kicked in utero, moving only when necessary and always with the upmost concern for his mother's comfort. Who is so very reasonable and who is predicted by his poppy to be infinitely confident and self-assured. Who is good as gold and makes his mama happy as can be.

This little/ not so little family of mine, I sure am glad to have them.

This Weekend We

This weekend we packed our bags and took Arlo on his first road trip.

We drove across the bay in a car filled with gentle excitement to a hushed beach town mostly forgotten for the winter.

We solved riddles and told stories and played so many rounds of twenty questions.

We slurped oysters, and we devoured candied sweet potato ice cream.

We searched for wild ponies, and we built sandcastles.

We filled in the gaps with imagination.

It was a quiet, sweet adventure, a perfect first run as a family of five.

P.S. If you're ever playing 20 Questions with Sena, you can skip right to "Is it a character from Lord of the Rings?"Chances are, yes, yes it is.
